Sponsorship Update
Written by fiona
Friday, 27 November 2009

As exam period gets underway in Zambia and schools prepare to close for the end of the year it is time for me as sponsorship manager to reflect on another successful year. I have once again been reminded how important education is in defining future opportunities.  The rooms at Chawama SEE school were being used by pupils to study on a weekend. At 10am on Sunday I found a grade 9 boy outside on a lone desk under a bamboo roof revising history for his upcoming exam.

Room to Read

On Monday 9th November Friend of EduSport, in partnership with the BUSA, EduSport Foundation and Kalingalinga EduSport, officially launched the Library Development project in Zambia.  A shipment of 17,500 books, sport equipment and second-hand laptops is currently ‘in transit’; this project has become a reality thanks to the efforts of Anne Stokes, Derek Keir, Kaluba Kangwa, St John’s School and Beaconhurst School. To bring together all the stakeholders involved in phase one of the project we hosted a workshop for our 10 partner schools. 28 representatives came from 2 private, 3 Government and 5 Community schools accompanied by EduSport community contact persons.  This allowed Friend of EduSport, led by Derek, an opportunity to provide an update on the progress of the books, disseminate information about the distribution of books, discuss the preparations in place and also the intended management strategies being employed by schools to maximise access to the library facilities.

Friend Of EduSport Development Day - Scotland

In early 2010 Friend Of EduSport will host its first Development Day in Scotland.  tn_DSC05010.JPG

The purpose behind this meeting is to provide a platform for new volunteers to get actively involved in Friend Of EduSport and assist in the ongoing development of Zambia and specifically Chawama SEE School through education and sport.

The key to our success so far has been the support and compassion we have for the communities we work in and in a close nit group we work for each other. Gregory Shikombelo once said, "What is the difference between a group and a team"? Hopefully this development day will give each of us a chance to be part of a team that can further contribue to the development of Friend Of EduSport programmes thereby improving the opportunities for so many inspiring young people in Zambia.

More information will be posted shortly but in the mean time If you are interested in attending our day and getting more involved in our programmes. Please email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
